US 441 is a highway that runs from Miami to Lake City, Tennessee. It was first constructed in the 1920s and connected Orlando to Ocala. It made its way south through Hollywood and into Miami in the early 1950s.

US 441 was one of the main highways to travel before Interstate 95 was constructed in the late 1950s. In Hollywood, US 441 runs north from Pembroke Road to Griffin Road. What was once maybe a prestigious and clean highway, is now home to car dealerships, auto mechanics, exotic adult stores, small Latin restaurants, and pawn shops.

Pawn shops are businesses that offer loans to people in exchange for a personal item. The item can be bought back for the amount of the loan plus interest, which varies by each shop. People that go to pawn shops are usually trying to get rid of an item, or are desperate for money.

Pawns shops on 441 in Hollywood

Driving down 441 in Hollywood, it seems there is a different pawn shop every hundred feet. In this 5 mile stretch, there are 13 pawn shops. That is approximately three pawn shops every mile. One may think that business is not so great for these shops because of the competition, but Rene Ozuna, employee at Cash Pawn & Jewelry says this is not the case.

"Times are hard for everyone," says Ozuna, "there are a lot of people in this city who are struggling and looking for a loan and the quickest way to get money is with brokers."

That statement seems true because of the amount of items most of these pawn shops are carrying. The stores are crammed with everything you can think of. Televisions, lawn mowers, musical instruments, chainsaws, video game consoles, DVDs, jewelry, and much more all for cheap prices.

"That's the other good thing about brokers. Struggling families can come in and get things for themselves or their kids for cheap," says Ozuna, "That's what makes us different than regular stores; we actually care about our customers."

So next time you're on 441 in Hollywood getting your car fixed and need a quick buck, it shouldn't be difficult to find a pawn shop that's willing help.
