Hollywood Commissioner Candidate hosts Hip-Hop Party to attract young voters

Democratic party? Republican party? How about a Hip-Hop party? Rick Valdez, Hollywood District 1 Commissioner candidate, hosted a hip-hop party Wednesday, Oct. 17 to encourage young voters to head out to polls this election.

The party was held at the SAS Martini Lounge in Downtown Hollywood and featured local artists such as:

  • Monty$$$
  • Reesy Wright
  • BMR Entertainment
  • TrekSS
  • Slick Mouth
  • Crown Elite
  • Frost Breezy
  • Black Elvis
  • Alvin Jackson

This free event was not a fundraiser. Valdez is more concerned with raising awareness for the election and showing new, young voters that their vote counts, according to a press release from Valdez.

"Young people can get involved," said Valdez in an interview with the Broward-Palm Beach New Times, "One email can make a difference. Just one."

Valdez introduced himself to guests at the entrance of the SAS Martini Lounge and spoke briefly on stage before the show to get the party started.

This is Valdez's first time running for office and, if elected, his goal is to lower property taxes in Hollywood. Rick can be reached through Facebook, Twitter, and email.
